Science Administrative Supervisor, Austin Independent School District
Cesar “Charlie” Gutierrez has been serving as the Science Administrative Supervisor for Austin ISD since 2011. He has dedicated his entire 28-year career towards advancing the teaching and learning of science in Austin, Texas. In 19 years at Reagan High School and the Alternative Learning Center, Charlie taught many different courses including biology, chemistry, and several electives. As a teacher, he mentored new teachers and student teachers, was an annual presenter at AISD’s New Teacher Academy, and was AISD High School Teacher of the Year in 2005. He piloted and taught an innovative biotechnology course for seven years and was a national leader in biotechnology education. Charlie also served as Instructional Specialist and Academic Dean at Reagan High School and left the campus in 2007 to become a Middle School Science Specialist for the district. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Texas. Charlie believes that children are born scientists who learn by exploring, interacting with, and communicating about the natural world.
